Planned Parenthood
Houston, Texas
Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization that provides reproductive and sexual healthcare, and sexual education in the United States and globally; its South Texas organization serves San Antonio, the Rio Grande Valley, and rural surrounding areas. We explored how past donation trends can inform their future fundraising efforts, using their extensive records tracked for each donation.
Montrose Center
Henrico County, Virginia
The Montrose Center is an LGBTQ community center that provides an array of programs and services for the LGBTQ community, including mental and behavioral health, anti-violence services, support groups, specialized services for youth, seniors, and those living with HIV, community meeting space. It is currently operating the nation's largest LGBTQ-affirming, affordable, senior living center in the nation. Our project was primarily focused on understanding their base of patients, particularly how this has changed over time and how events have factored into these changes including COVID-19 and various legislative changes in Texas and nationwide.
Journey Mental Health Center
Madison, Wisconsin
Journey Mental Health Center is a nonprofit behavioral agency based in Dane and Columbia Counties, Wisconsin. They are committed to delivering quality behavioral healthcare services to community members. Our partnership will focus on measuring and visualizing mental health service access and quality, improving demographic data collection and visualization to support mental health equity and mapping and integrating data systems to improve clinicians’ experience.
HOPE
Pakistan
HOPE is a non profit in Pakistan that combats high infant mortality and poverty by empowering women and children. It operates 4 hospitals, 3 schools, and 8 health clinics, focusing on healthcare and education to tackle these issues at their roots, aiming for sustainable, long-term impact. Our team is focused on analyzing data from donors to HOPE, with the objectives of identifying donation patterns among volunteers, developing predictive models to forecast future donations, and enhancing the frequency of irregular donations.
Compass to Care
Chicago, Illinois
Compass to Care is dedicated to ensuring that children with cancer can access life-saving medical treatments. They provides support to families by helping to plan and pay for travel arrangements to hospitals and cancer treatment centers. Our partnership with them aims to uncover the financial and logistical impact of cancer treatment travel on families, examining how factors like diagnosis, stage, and demographics influence transportation costs and choices. Additionally, we seek to identify temporal patterns in travel needs and predict future spending to optimize resource allocation, while also assessing the socio-emotional effects of travel on families over time through survey data.
Oncology and Kids
San Diego, California
Oncology And Kids' mission is to provide resources and support for kids battling cancer and their siblings. As a small-scale nonprofit with limited human resource and technical support, our partnership epitomizes the Biokind mission to empower small nonprofits in the service of healthcare. Our team analyzed camp datasets, including demographics, geographic, and medication data, and identified ways for OAK to improve data collection and storage practices and processes.
Mama's Kitchen
San Diego, California
Mama’s Kitchen is a non-profit organization that provides medically-tailored meals for San Diegans in need, especially low-income individuals battling cancer. We analyzed Mama's Kitchen's programs datasets to discover actionable insights related to the history, demographic, service demand, and geographic distribution of clients. Another project team recently started a second project focused on data engineering, privacy, and analytics to improve Mama's Kitchen's data collection and management processes.
Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia
Henrico County, Virginia
Make-a-Wish Greater Virginia is a nonprofit that creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Our partnership will focus on exploring their volunteer demographics, by first creating a survey and then analyzing the results. The goal of this project is for Make-a-Wish Greater Virginia to better understand the demographics of their volunteers and be able to improve upon strategies to reach prospective volunteers.
Halo House
Houston, Texas
Halo House’s mission is to help save the lives of cancer patients battling leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma by offering them access to clean, temporary, and affordable housing so that they can pursue treatment at the Texas Medical Center (TMC). The focus of our partnership is to analyze the donation and patient data. Halo House wants to learn more about the donation trends and analyze their past data to make more informed decisions about their fundraising campaigns, donation events, and the types of patients that use their services to know how they can get in touch with the right donors.
Reining Strength
Houston, Texas
Reining Strength Therapeutic Horsemanship is a Premier Accredited Center and provides equine-assisted services for children and adults who have physical, cognitive, social, or emotional needs. Our partnership looked to examine their client database. In particular, our project was interested in retention, frequency of attendance, average hours an individual volunteers, and percentage of volunteers who volunteer versus those who attend an orientation and never sign up.
Nora's Home
San Diego, California
Nora's Home is a nonprofit organization that provides a home away from home for solid organ transplant patients and their families in the Texas Medical Center. Our partnership focused on analyzing the patients who have stayed at Nora’s home. We are analyzing who their guests are and cross-linking with additional datasets to learn more about their income brackets, their background, and potential roles they play in whether or not they choose to stay at Nora’s home.
ALS Association of Illinois
Chicago, Illinois
The ALS Association of Greater Chicago is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis through care, advocacy, and research funding. In our partnership, we aim to leverage Machine Learning to forecast donor retention rates and deliver actionable, data-driven insights to increase donation levels.
Rx Partnership
Tuckahoe, Virginia
Rx Partnership is a Virginia-based nonprofit dedicated to increasing medication access for vulnerable communities. Our project will analyze the thoroughness of coverage for diseases like sexual health, diabetes, and respiratory ailments, identify any undersupplied areas, and correlate medication distribution with regional disease prevalence. Additionally, we'll examine the ongoing Medicaid Unwinding in Virginia, focusing on the rescreening of eligibility among different regions.
Autism Society of Central Virginia
Richmond, Virginia
The Autism Society of Central Virginia is a nonprofit that advocates for and supports children and adults with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them. Our partnernship will focus on using data to visually demonstrate the growing needs and demands of those with autism in Virginia to prospective donors and community partners.
Cancer Services
Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Cancer Services' mission is to inspire and engage communities to make an immediate impact on the lives of those affected by cancer. For them, that means more than funding research and goes beyond finding a cure. This semester, we are partnering with Cancer Services by optimizing their resource allocation so that they can save costs and strategically enhance their marketing campaign.
ALS Association of Texas

ALS Association of Texas works to improve the lives of people living with ALS and leave no stone unturned in the search for its cure. Our partnership focused on analyzing their patient database, examining veteran presence, insurance plans, and average distance/hours traveled for patients to reach their clinics.
